Laura Ames has been named chief executive officer of HealthSouth New England Rehabilitation Hospital, a 210-bed inpatient physical rehabilitation hospital that serves patients who are recovering from conditions such as stroke and other neurological disorders, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, complex orthopedic conditions, and cardiac and pulmonary conditions. She started her new role on April 18.

In her position as CEO, she is responsible for all clinical, financial and strategic operations of the hospital. She also administers two remote inpatient hospitals in Beverly and Lowell. Ames has held a variety of senior-level positions and previously served as CEO at Arbour Hospital in Boston. Ames also holds the distinction of Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN®), a certification indicating that a nurse is especially proficient in the knowledge base of care in a rehabilitative and restorative setting and signifies a commitment to the profession.

“We are excited to have Laura leading HealthSouth New England Rehabilitation Hospital. She has numerous years of experience in healthcare leadership and operations which will not only benefit the staff, but also the patients and their families cared for in our hospital,” said Peter Mantegazza, president of the northeast region for HealthSouth.
